A tragic head-on collision took the lives of two Tulsa men early Sunday morning. The men were driving down I-80 in brutal weather conditions before colliding head-on with a large semi-truck.
According to Wyoming Highway Patrol, the two men from Oklahoma were heading eastbound, just west of Wamsutter, Wyoming, in a 2004 Toyota Tundra before crossing over the middle median.
The driver, Brandon M. Bivens, 22, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, flew over the median and immediately crashed into the front of a large 2019 Freightliner Conventional vehicle around 9:32 a.m.
Brandon and his passenger, Michael J. Bivens, 59, also from Tulsa, were both wearing seatbelts at the time of the head-on collision but succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the Freightliner was heading westbound and suffered only minor injuries. He was also wearing a seatbelt.
The names of the driver and his passenger have not been released. It was later reported, though, that the passenger of the semi-truck was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Rawlins, Wyoming.
Wyoming troopers concluded that winter weather conditions and speed may have played key factors in the head-on collision. The accident is still under investigation.
Driving too fast during snowy weather conditions puts your life and the lives of others at risk. This head-on collision has been the 8th and 9th accident fatality in Wyoming since the beginning of 2019.
